I'm an Xastir user, form way 'back in the day' when Xastir was written and developed by a single individual, Frank G. That was about - what, almost 10 years ago now I think.
Xastir has changed, a LOT, in that time. I've managed to contiue using Xastir and mostly stay up with all the developments. But haven't had but fringe input on it's development. Mostly comments and user viewpoint and a few questions. Fits, since I'm a user, not a coder.
One of the more persistant complaints for Xastir in all this time has been the lack of effective documentation. It takes almost as much work to write good documentation as it does code! In some ways, code is easier - since it can pretty much only be interpreted one way. I'm hopeful this Wiki will allow the creation of excellent documentation to support the excellent code we call Xastir.
We've many people that're coming to Linux through Xastir. Their goal isn't to use Linux, but to use Xastir. As such, the 'tone' of many questions has shifted from Xastir-centril to OS-centric. Also, now that Xastir can be run on Windows with they Cygwin environment, we'll be dealing with more than just *nix questions. It'll be a balancing act to keep from turning this Wiki into an OS support site - but these friends of ours coming to Xastir will need that support from somewhere. In the past, the Xastir community has been wonderfully supportive to new *nix users.
Good luck on the balancing act! This is the Xastir site - but it's success, flexability and attractiveness has created a unique challenge for us. Go for it!
